About the WILLIAM C DALDY Steam TugA proud life of hard work, adventure and public service
70
years of steam powered history - after several decades as the main working tug
for the port of Auckland the WILLIAM C DALDY was heroically rescued from the
breakers yard by a small band of volunteers, to continue life as a
maritime preservation success story.
Owned, restored,
maintained and operated by The Tug WILLIAM C DALDY Preservation Society
Inc, the Daldy remains a familiar Auckland maritime icon by being
available to the public for charter cruises and excursion sailings.
Licensed under Maritime Safety Authority survey, the DALDY is
maintained and crewed by skilled and experienced volunteers operating a
Safe Ship Management Programme. One hundred percent of the charter income is used
for ongoing preservation, maintenance and compliance expenses.
The
DALDY crew enjoy providing a close-as-you-can-get Living Steam
experience along with friendly, professional and enthusiastic service
to their on board-guests.
The
all-volunteer crew come from all walks of life with many joining the
crew programme after first sailing on the DALDY as part of a social or
party event. Between sailings the DALDY resides at Victoria (Devonport) Wharf, Devonport, North Shore City
